Overview
Under the “Build-it-Back” program, a number of properties in low-lying flood zones that were damaged by Hurricane Sandy were selected to receive federal grants to make these buildings more resilient to future flood events. UQ was hired under this program to lead a team implementing a retrofit of critical building systems for a portfolio of buildings in lower Manhattan. Two of the buildings are supportive housing projects, one in the Lower East Side and one in the Two Bridges area at 621 Water Street. The latter is on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to coordinating closely with building management and the engineering team, the project underwent historic preservation review at the New York SHPO. The project team includes HPD, Community Preservation Corporation, EMJ Construction Consultants, Community Access, Dewberry Consulting, and others.
