One of the firm’s current projects is a large planning study in the Bronx which includes facility design for the New York Police Department and large scale public/private mixed-use development. After the first phase of the planning study was presented to City Hall last September, it has been circulating between the city’s housing department, city planning, and the police department. While we wait for government due diligence and approvals, UQ teamed up with Professor Jeffrey Nesbit of UNC Charlotte to create a multi-year studio curriculum for graduate students in architecture. The students, who visited the site in March, will conduct background research on the site and will develop proposals for a parking facility and community center that is also a model of urban coastal resiliency. The studio will evolve as the project does with the intention of allowing the students an opportunity to contribute to the eventual plan and design and present their ideas to the City through an edited publication of research.
